A year ago, the host Man Vs. Food attempted to eat the “Seppuku” or “Suicide” hot wings at a restaurant called Buffalo Cantina in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. As you can see in this video, he failed.
The show is now in its second season and already running out of amateur food challenges around the country to undertake, so he decided to make another go of it. The taping was yesterday, and given my obsessive love for the show, I checked it out.

Adam was sadly not impressed by friends’ awesome handmade signs (they said “Food Dude” and “Man: 1,000,000, Food: 2”). But, whatever, he seemed jovial enough during the taping, and also, what do you expect from a TV star? Since he lives in Brooklyn, he had family and friends there as well, so he was busy chatting with them and also sneaking off to buy antacid medicine or something. It won’t hinder my enjoyment of the show.
While taping the chatty part of the episode, Adam made a guy in the crowd try a bite of the Suicide Wings. We couldn’t hear everything but we could see that one bite drove this guy to tears.

Adam’s challenge was to eat six Suicide wings in six minutes.

We cheered, we drank, we laughed at the ridiculous women checking their makeup every five minutes, we high-fived, and we ate some nachos. At one point we climbed over the porch fence and bought beers from the bodega across the street since it was too crowded to get service inside.

At the end we stuck around, ate a few free wings, and participated in the “Press conference” portion of the show. Ben and I each asked Adam a question, but I’m not sure how likely it is that they’ll use mine. I happen to be TERRIBLE on camera, always looking at it when I’m not supposed to, or looking at the director when they tell me to speak into the camera. I can’t recite lines with any semblance of natural delivery.
I think the producer at one point told me to quit jumping around because “It’s not the 1920s!” Ha.
I made a short video about the event that I’ll post in a bit. Update: Took the video down because it contained spoilers (Show airs in October, I think).
